When I was in elementary school, my favorite time at school was when I talked and ran around with my friends during recess, the long break after lunch. Recently, I learned that some elementary schools in the US have changed the timing of recess to before lunch. In 2001, less than 5% of elementary schools had recess before lunch. By 2012, more than one-third of schools had changed to this new system. Surveys were conducted to find out more about this change. Here are the results. It's good to have recess before lunch because: Students get hungrier and want to eat. Students don't rush meals to play outside after lunch. Students are calmer and focus better in the afternoon.
